CURRENT INITIATIVES

Photographic checklists.

As part of its efforts to raise awareness PCA has embarked on the production of a series of photographic checklists which will cover all the flowering plants of Seychelles. PCA has secured partial funding from the Environment Trust Fund and it is currently working on the first photographic checklist for all the native palms and pandanus of the Seychelles. Once completed the book will provide basic information on the diagnostic features of these plants, their uses, distribution and their conservation status.

Inventory of native species.

In September 2003 PCA, in collaboration with the Zurich Geobotanischen Institute started inventorying 10 native species believed to be the most endangered. The inventory is being conducted on the granitic islands of Seychelles and will form the initial part of a broader inventory, leading to the publication of the first red data list of Seychelles native plants.

North Island rehabilitation.
